Give and Take
(the one where players give and take focus in a scene)
In this training exercise, two pairs of players take turns giving and taking focus within a scene, usually set in a location that allows for two separate and unrelated conversations (a restaurant, cocktail party, library, etc.). Players can GIVE focus in the scene by pausing in their conversation, prompting the other pair to begin talking. Or they can TAKE focus by resuming their conversation, causing the other pair to pause.
- When one pair has the focus, the silent pair maintain a soft freeze – not totally frozen, but not distractingly active either.
- Try having the two conversations subtly steal elements (themes, words, emotions) from each other.
